So I am flying to jacksonville from hawaii this christmas to visit my grandmother. I asked her what winter weather is like out there and she told me it wouldn't be any different than it is in hawaii, but I'm calling BS on it. I've read that it actually gets down to the 50s-60s??? Will I need to buy some winter clothes before I fly out? I don't really own any extreme cold weather stuff...

I've been in hawaii for most of my life and I need a heavy jacket and scarf when it dips into the low 70's...I really don't know what I would need for much below that

Christmas weather can be anywhere between the 30's and 80's, it just depends on what's currently trending. This December has been warmer than usual by about 6 degrees, yesterday it was 75 but overcast, today is supposed to be 77 and overcast. I remember going surfing many Christmas days when I was a teenager, I also remember sitting warm and snug in front of the family fireplace when the temp dipped into the 30's on other Christmas days. You will probably need a heavy jacket to be safe but you won't need a snow suit by any means.

williamwebb is right ... I've been in Jax since '68 ... I've been bundled up in a heavy coat on Christmas Day, and I've been outside in shorts & a t-shirt on Chtristmas Day ... check the long range forecast on weather.com to plan your packing

Yes, it can be very dreary and wet in December with lows in the 30s/40s and highs in the 50s/60s. Sometimes it can be warm and sunny and pushing 80 degrees. But, we've only had two Christmases with snow since the 80s. Bring mittens, a scarf, and a heavy coat. But also shorts and a t-shirt.
