I am currently living in Terre Haute and cannot wait to leave. I have only been here two years and it is all I can take. There are limited jobs, lots of drugs, and it is dirty. If you are going to live here make sure you stay away from the "avenues" Liberty st, Chase st, stay north of maple or south of Davis. Besides that not too much limited.

My family and I moved here eight months ago from a small city in Wisconsin. Terre Haute has its problems, sure, but compared to where we came from, this is 90% better.

I don't understand what you mean about "dirty"? If you are talking about neighborhoods, some are "brighter" then others. Just like with the drug problem issue, you just learn what areas to NOT go into.

As far as limited jobs, what I've found out here is that the people have to "know" you. (That was actually said to my mother by a doctor when she asked for a certain medication that she had been on in Wisconsin. He said he wouldn't give her it because he didn't know her.)

True, Terre Haute isn't perfect by any means, but most of the people are nice and willing to help others. There are parks that you can take your kids to and not have to worry about being robbed on the way. The weather is warmer, and not as much snow as up north.

Terre Haute isn't for everyone, but the real estate is reasonable (although the gas bills can be atrocious) and it is very close to even bigger cities (St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Cincinnati, OH).
