I live here in Indeeeana, I hate certain things about it and then I love certain things about it and I'm not depressed! It's what you make out of it. However I do agree with some of you that cloudy days in the winter get very depressing. The close minded/redneck comment can be said about any place. Sure I've encountered some backwards people here but the same can be said about any place, I met my fair share in DC metro growing up. There are also good, kind people here too. Just remember, the grass is always greener on the other side, Indiana is a pretty nice place overall.

Nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. My mom's family is up there. We lived there until I was eight.

It's a great bunch of people- small towns, everybody knows everybody. I remember a few years ago while visiting my grandma in greenfield I broke away to see myu aunt and uncle in Waldron. I asked Grandma and she told me how to get to waldron. I said, " I already know where wladron is; I don't know where their house is." She told me to ask someone when I got there. I was like ????. "Who?" "Anybody."

I didn't believe her. But sure enough the first person I asked knew my aunt anmd sent me to her house.

And I noticed almost every time I walked outside to get something out of the car people would honk. I didn't notice it at first, but after a day or so I asked my aunt about it. People would see me, assume I was a relative and honk and wave. So I started waving back.

Still I don't think I could live there. The main thing that bothers me is the sky. You never see the sky. It's always hazy. That sucks. And the winter. Gack. Cold, slushy, dirty and even less sky. And more staying inside the same 4 walls.

My Grandma is having problems with depression in the winter. I can see why.

BTW, what is SAD?

Seasonal Affective Disorder. Tends to happen when the sun doesn't shine for an extended period of time. Makes some depressed.

Boy, you said it, and I am from Ohio, which isn't a whole heck of a lot better for openess. If you didn't go to high school with them, they won't accept you.
I even got called "an outsider" at my new job.
That's not conservativism.
I think the meanest women in the world live here. You can treat them nicely, with respect, etc., but they won't include you.
Just ignorant and they haven't been around, because the whole world doesn't operate that way.

You're going to find that anywhere you go. Its not just an Indiana thing.

I ran into the same kind of people when I lived in Northern Illinois.

Indiana seems like 2 different states. Flat farmland, alot of people leery of outsiders up north.
Rolling hills and friendly, southern types in the southern part of the state.
Well actually, 3 states. I think Gary is its own stateof despair.
