By Indiana standards, it's extremely liberal.

It is kind of sad what the working adult population goes through here in Bloomington. There are no jobs here that pay a living wage so you either work 80+ hours a week or have a bunch of babies so you can live off the government. If you don't want to work 80+ hours a week or have a bunch of babies and go on welfare, then you probably need to stay out of Bloomington.

Years ago, a person could make decent money here. There were good middle class paying factories here. Those jobs are gone now. The factories outsourced those jobs or closed down. I know a couple people who used to work at the old RCA plant that went to Mexico and made decent money. It was hard work, but they lived pretty well. The factories that are left don't pay much. You would be looking at $8.00-$10.00 an hour.

Bloomington is a thriving, liberal, community-minded bright spot in Indiana. I love spending some long weekends there every year. The downsides for me are (1) no jobs unless you work for the university (the city is small, so there are not a lot of jobs in government/education outside of IU)... (2) Bloomington still has Indiana winters... (3) the distance from Indy is a little too much and its not well connected to cities other than Indy.

Actually I found Bloomington to be in a strategic location, soon B-town will get connected with Evansville via I-69, Indy can be reached in 45-60mins depending on roads/weather condition, and Louisville is not a bad drive as well, just 40 mins until your reach I-65 then its a easy drive down to The Ville.

On a snowy winter day I can see why, but when the weather is nice its really not "that" bad especially after you pass Nashville.
