Read what the definition of a wasteland is then say that to us.
I can say I agree with Broadrippleguy in about 1 in every 500 of his posts. This would be one of them.

Bloomington is a wasteland? You provide no examples of why, sounds pretty short sighted to me. An influx of people from California ruins an area for you? Sounds like you should stay away from big cities altogether, they're likely to have all kinds of people, including Californians.

Well the OP wanted to know what others thought, and that is what I thought, and no, I am not going to stay away from cities just because you think I should. There are big cities that I like a lot but Bloomington had nothing that I wanted. Then again the midwest is not a very nice area except Chicago.

You want a definition of wasteland go google it.

Z ... you're being super harsh. Seriously, you're very emotional and reading your extreme opinions makes you sound like there was something else going on when you were in Bloomington. Sorry you had a bad time, but your experience is in the minority, I'm afraid.

Bloomington and Austin ... well, it depends on what you are looking for. Austin is trendy ... oh so very trendy. It's also a state capital, so you have a mix of trendy student life and state government types. Bloomington is a blue collar town with major university plunked right in the middle.

You can't really compare them, they are two totally different towns with totally different feels.

well Bloomington is after all a college town with a population of 80,000 clearly its not Chicago and not even close to Indianapolis. Try appreciating what different cities have to offer instead of comparing them with world class cities.

I see a lady wearing a t-shirt around here that states "Keep Austin Weird" ... nothing wrong with weird, but I don't think of Bloomington as weird.

No, but by Indiana standards, it's extremely weird.
