Sleepymiles - thanks for the 2nd vote --- and also for noting to check about flooding. Good catch.

Cubssoxfan - thanks for the suggestion through Peoria - I'll look at that. Far western Nebraska (and some other desolate places out west) are places I hope I never travel alone. I'd not enjoy that solo.

Just FYI - this is the revised drive route so far.

Germantown, WI 53022 to Wappapello, MO 63966 - Google Maps (http://tinyurl.com/yl2dy9c - broken link)

Be confident, use your street smarts and embrace & enjoy the open road. What is causing your trepidation?

You're right, cubssoxfan - I need to build up my confidence in myself traveling alone. I'll be fine. I'm observant of people and situations. I've taken good care of myself this far in life - what's 10 more hours, right? (I'll keep repeating that.) If I'm really stuck, I've got my cell phone. My car insurance includes towing (very old car, very old tires). I'll make it!

I-39 is not desolate now, it is a well used road. I do remember when it was desolate, but you won't find that to be the case now. As others have said, you will find gas and food frequently. You may not have 10 choices, but you'll typically have something. Good luck!

Thanks Elaine. I'm glad to hear that because my b/f and I have decided I'll be best off taking I-39 on this trip after all. I'll be leaving sometime after Wednesday of this coming week - whichever day it doesn't rain / storm.

I like the Petro Truck Stop at exit 99 Rochelle on I-39. My experience has been that Road Ranger truck stops are more run down and not as clean.
