i currently have a medcal supply buisness going and was thinking of opening an office in rockford, illinois but dont know anything about the city. any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

it is the biggest city in that area. i think a little less than 150,000. i know it has a high unemployment rate.

Well Rockford is the largest city in Illinois outside of Chicagoland and is the 3rd largest overall. Has 3 decent sized hospitals (250 - 400 beds). High unemployment rate so you should have no problem finding employees. The average age is somewhat older than the US average. Also it is a short drive from the far Northwest Chicago subburbs and Southern Wisconsin. Property and sales taxes are high so that is something to consider.

the community in Rockford is very proactive in attracting business to their community and there are a lot of great opportunities to find very affordable space in the city. Also, with an airport and a UPS hub in the city distribution is relatively easier. Housing is very affordable and an Amtrak link to Chicago now looks like a done deal in the next few years. I suggest contacting the Rockford Area Economic Development Council, they can answer any questions and most likely provide you with some interesting reasons to locate there (
