You know there is help these days for folks who suffer the heartbreak of being "irony-challenged"... I believe they call it "lightening up".

"Hispanic leaders are preparing to ask the D.C. Council to take up a resolution calling for a city boycott of Arizona over its tough new immigration law."

Something tells me the good people of Arizona will breathe a sigh of relief knowing that DC Councilman and perpetual Rogue Emeritus Marion Barry will be boycotting their state.

Just to be fair, Arizona should just adopt the same standards Mexico uses.

From the L. A. Times

1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people)are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.

10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish.

(There are 10.2 million people in L. A. County . )

(All 10 of the above are from the Los Angeles Times ; a trusted source for you liberals )

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare.

Over 70% of the United States ' annual population growth (and over 90% of California , Florida , and New York ) results from immigration.

29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

We are a bunch of fools for letting this continue.

By all means, let the illegal aliens boycott American businesses. Hopefully they'll boycott the entire country and refuse to come here to mooch off of our system anymore.

The Democratic party is the one making this a political issue. They are grandstanding for votes. That is what this is all about for the Democrats, getting the votes to remain in power. It's ALL about power and control nothing else.

Sure, like the bill itself and Brewer's signing of it isn't political grandstanding..

BOTH parties engage in that BS almost non-stop..

They are trying to rally their base but there are a few issues that will rally both sides and illegal immigration is one of them. BTW, illegal immigrants can't vote so I'm not sure who they are trying to appeal to here.

Not every Mexican-American supports illegal immigrants. My in-laws are Mexican-American and are totally in favor of this bill. They are part of a huge Mexican-American community in Phoenix and all of their friends believe this is a good bill. If they get asked for id...they can provide it...just like anyone else should be able to. If they get asked for id when they're walking, they can tell the police officer that they will have to follow them home so they can get it. What's the big deal? If my in-laws don't have a problem with it (and they will be the ones most affected), why should some blowhard in DC have a problem with it?

The brother and son of a President is against this law. I see a crack in the Republican conservative armor.

You're absolutely right and this is not a political issue for most Arizonans. The Republicans sure weren't in any hurry to get anything done and now the Democrats are calling this bill "unfortunate." What's unfortunate is that a state, who is already suffering greatly from the economic downturn, is having to take matters into their own hands and approve a controversial law in order to get anyone's attention. The media can't stop talking about it, Obama can't stop calling it "unfortunate", and finally the people in Arizona are getting the attention they need to get something done. For decades, this problem has been largely ignored and Arizonans have had a love/hate relationship with the illegal immigrants who provide cheap labor. But in the last 10 years, the crime rate has gone up significantly because no one did anything when it first became a problem. The flood gates have opened on criminal activity and drug gangs who use Phoenix as a backdrop and are turning the city into another Nogales or Tijuana. It's one thing to come and work hard to provide a better life for you family. It's another to hold groups of illegals for ransom and to turn otherwise nice neighborhoods into drug dealing centers. The straw that broke the camel's back here is the crime rate. Phoenix is #2 (above Bogota, Columbia) in kidnappings in the world. This has moved way beyond the crop picker or the landscaper and while most Arizonans sympathize with the plight of people willing to die while crossing the desert to a hopefully better life, what Arizonans are angry about is the criminal activity that has taken over that state, and that's not a Republican or Democratic issue.
