Here on the border you see countless people from Mexico coming over to shop for a day and there's no way it's costing them hundreds of dollars and long waits in lines.

They come legally to shop and visit, and the stores they shop in would not justify that kind of money. I'll have to check but I'm sure it's very cheap and very easy for a Mexican to get a short term visa of some kind.

The application process is long, the fee is $131 USD. They have to get a Mexican passport first...about $100USD. Then they have to travel to Mexico City to the Embassy ,or to one of the consulates in Mexico...this can cost several hundred dollars. They have an appointment for an interview, but there are hundreds of people in line...so it takes hours. The interview is literally 1 or 2 minutes, and the great majority of the time the answer is "No." even wealthy Mexicans that have had visas in the past, travelled to the U.S. and returned when they were supposed to, are being denied new visas when they apply.
What is your point? Its a nations right to decide who it allows to enter. As an applicant you have right to disagree with the system but you never have the right to disregard said system. Once you do you become a criminal. Irony at it its best you yourself prove the system was right to turn you down...

ROFL. Its funny they can raise the money to pay a coyote to smuggle them accross but not pay for an application to enter legally...
Sort of like the same mentality low income housing tennants have. They cant afford to pay real rent but they do have money for entertainment centers and new cars.
Oh how the excuses kill me

The problem is not ours but theirs. Somewhere along the line non US citizens decided that anybody and everybody who wants to live here should be welcomed with open arms to pursue the "American Dream". Legal Immigration is a practice whose original purpose was to fulfill the needs of AMERICA and American employers who had positions/occupational needs that could not be met by an American citizen. While there is plenty of blame to go around with regard to illegal immigration, at the end of the day, if we get back to the basics of enforcing the current laws, eliminate benefits and the 14th amendent; fining and even arresting multiple offensive employers, America's sovereignty just might be salvaged and Americans will be much happier. The icing on the cake: illegal entrants might stop whining, about the conditions of their own homelands; somehow by osmosis develop an ounce of common sense, realize that laws exist for a reason and actually grow big enough cohunas to do something about the economic and culturally embedded criminal elements that control their homelands that they think justifies them breaking into America. They may even go home, create their own damn dream, and have legitimate reasons for pride in their country. (I'm looking at you Mexico)

For many undocumnted workers there is no line to get into. If your poor in Mexico, you have a MUCH lesser chance of getting a visa to come here. If your wealthy your chances are much higher.

True -- they think nothing of paying a coyote $5000 to smuggle them in but gripe till they're blue in the face about the $131 to come in legally.

So? Have you seen Mexico's immigration laws? They aren't exactly rolling out the welcome mat for our inner city types and housing project dwellers to come to Mexico.

Why would we encourage even more of the illiterate and impoverished to move here? For one -- it's extremely expensive to live in the USA, far more expensive to live here than in Mexico. Exactly how do we support all the billions of impoverished throughout the world if we bring them here?

And you wouldn't be racist enough to suggest that it's only Mexico's large poverty class that is brought into the USA in unlimited numbers but also Haiti's, Cambodia's, Somalia's, and so on. There are billions of poor people throughout the world that would prefer life here -- or do you mean Mexicans only have some racist right to come in unlimited numbers?

It's time the Mexicans stop believing the USA is completely responsible for their lives and their poverty.

What they need to do is question why things are so much better in Arizona than in Sonora, or why people leave Tamaulipas for Texas. Mexico is part of the same land mass as the USA, it has abundant natural resources, oil, beautiful climate, a long growing season.

Why exactly can Mexicans not make it in Mexico? If they really feel the USA is the way to go, then why don't they adopt our culture and lifestyle instead and stay in Mexico and make Mexico prosperous?
