Has anyone seen the new Kia Borrego? It debuts this month, and from what I've seen so far it looks like a pretty good value for the money. The price tag is about 8K less than its competitors (4Runner and Pathfinder). Any thoughts?

But it has the fuel economy of the others, as well. I guess the $8K you save will go to gas. Seriously, though. It's the Veracruz that has been squared off. Same engine for $4K less than the Veracruz and the Borrego will have the optional V8 that the Veracruz will not have. The V8 will quietly enter the market in the winter of '09. But a diesel engine is in the rumor-works for a late introduction of '09. The diesel V6 will have the fuel economy of a small 4 cylinder engine. I'd wait for that if your not in the market, yet!

Yeah, the Borrego beats the Explorer in MPG-- gets 20 highway and 15 city (with a V8 engine and 6-speed transmission.) Here's the Edmunds article on it if you're interested:

I agree about the Veracruz, the Borrego seems like a better value for the money. Thanks for the feedback!

And with the Hyundai/KIA family becoming a better product than before, it would be a direct competitor against the US makers.

I agree. And certainly since Kia's price is much lower than many competitors' prices, they certainly have an advantage with the Borrego. The Borrego also has some new technology coming out in fall according to Kia's website - such as heated second row seats, power adjustable pedals, and push button start w/smart key.
