Some telephone poles still standing. Good job cementing those in. (I always try to find a positive in things) . And I guess cell towers are still standing? How are these guys charging their batteries and sending these videos?

Don't remember which one (the one from a long porch) but there was a generator in one shot.

Has any other major hurricane ever stalled like this directly over land?

Having vacationed on Elbow cay many times , I can assure you that people of any means
have generators built into their homes along with cisterns for water.
The middle of the island holds the garbage dump where the illegal Haitians live and if any
of them survived this storm I will be very surprised. Incredible sad times for Bahamas.

The only hurricane I can think of is Harvey, but I think it had weakened to a tropical storm and then depression quickly.

I haven’t been on C-D since Thursday before the forecasts changed turning Dorian off of the coast and paralleling it. Assuming this happens, this is good news for Florida not so much for the Carolinas. How many tropical cyclones have made landfall there the past few years? It will probably be only a cat one or so by then, but the Carolinas aren’t as equipped for regular systems as Florida is.

Could Dorian gain strength again once it is away from the Bahamas and moving so slow over warm water conditions?
