Tue 20Aug2019 11pEDT/AST: Invest 97L that started along the US SE coast and pushed far out to sea has organized enough today to become Tropical Storm Chantal, the 3rd named storm of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane season. On average the 3rd named storm genesis date is Aug 13th.

Estimated winds 40mph(65km/h), moving E 22mph(35km/h), pressure 1010mb. Located about 485miles(780km) SE of Halifax, Nova Scotia or 475miles(765km) SSW of Cape Race Newfoundland.

Chantal is heading out to sea and is riding the edge of the warmer Gulf Stream current waters which has allowed it to strengthen today. NHC says it's moving up over a Bermuda High, but will then come back down on the Eastern side of the High pressure (clockwise flow influence) so Chantal may be around for a bit, if it survives the dry air ahead. But all indications are that it will stay far out at sea at this time.

Official updates are released by the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) every 6 hours at 5 & 11am/pmEDT/AST here: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
