Guess it isn't getting any better. I use to live in Tallahassee, Fl and I always thought it was extremely expensive and being the state capitol you had a lot of folks that had to go there. My daughter lives in Birmingham so I always fly Southwest in and out when I have to fly.

And that's why I never fly Huntsville unless it's on someone else's dime.

Huntsville Times ran article today and airport official said it was due to Business travel. And it said also said it was due to short booking times (business books a week in advance) but I tried booking early dates/more than a month in advance and I stll got high rates. It's a pain.

How is that calculated? I recently bought tix for my Mom and sister to fly in this xmas and it was 400 / person round trip from Pheonix, AZ with a hop in Memphis, TN (if memory serves).

What flights out of Huntsville cost $500+? I think even my non-stop flights to and from DC last year were cheaper than that.

Is it only direct flights? Or the total cost to destination period?

Flights out of here to DC are pretty reasonable because there are so many flying that route. However try booking other routes - it is high here. If I were flying from Atlanta to anywhere I could fly so much cheaper. I would have had to pay 500 for a round trip to south Florida area from here and if I were to have flown from Atlanta I could have gone for 150 round trip. I drove.

Just did a search to compare prices from Phoenix (since that's what's pertinent to me and its not really a common Huntsville-related destination)...

to Birmingham $458
to Nashville $407
to Atlanta $279

Huntsville's $400 doesn't look too out of wack.

Oh, and the Atlanta flight... AirTran... gets back to what someone said about AirTran being a good airline for Huntsville. But besides that, I want their direct flight to Orlando.

I've flown to ABQ, Phoenix, San Diego, Boston, Buffalo 3X in the past couple years... I haven't paid more than $400. The Boston and Buffalo tickets were under $300. I haven't noticed that much difference. Not enough to make me drive 1.5-2 hours to catch a flight.

I've had to travel from the Huntsville area to chiefly destinations out west for 30 years now--some business, mostly personal.
I live 40-45 minutes from Huntsville airport, and about twice as far from Nashville airport.
Most every time, not every time, it's cheaper for me to fly in and out of Nashville even including the additional driving time and, sometimes, parking, and even other times, a motel for the night in Nashville.

I've found that I usually have better connections, more flight choices available from Nashville than Huntsville as well.
