Speaking of new apartments: Have you noticed how so many apartments are now 3 stories tall--and some 4 story apartments. And there is a general lack of architecture--just big block buildings with flat roofs.

They're stashing them everywhere--even in old neighborhoods.

But none will be $800 per month properties. Double that for an average monthly rent.

Most are 4 stories. I believe if you go to 5 or above, they have to use steel instead of dimensional lumber.

I wonder if they're assuming the Space Command Hq moving here is a done deal? It's a relatively small number of new jobs, but still will have an impact depending on the final politically motivated decision (it's already been objectively decided, but is being reviewed based on nothing other than political reasons).

Or they might be expecting some of these older complexes to be abandoned and torn down. Some of these places were built 40-50 years ago, or more, and they show it.

Plus people wanting to live in places with a higher "buy in"...making it more exclusive.

The population gain isn't slowing down. People are moving from places up north and out west.

Why isn't Decatur keeping up with Huntsville's growth?

Decatur lagging behind? They have a better waterfront suitable for large factories and chemical plants. But there again, one of the chemical factories has not been a good steward of their natural resources. And Decatur has the Interstate 5 miles away.

I say that Decatur may have social issues. It's just not as nice of a place to live as Madison and the Huntsville burbs.

9,479 units are in planning in 30 additional apartment communities.
Total of 24,164 either under construction or planned.
>7,500 units have broke ground in the last 4-5 months.
About 6,000 certificates of occupancy will be issued in 2023, and another 8,000-9,000 will 2024.

I was just thinking this myself. I work over in Chase Industrial Park, I believe there are 3 or 4 complexes going up there alone. I feel as if apartment/condo construction is outweighing housing construction. I’m sure the inflated pricing of homes plays a part in this.

It is mostly due to a large number of available jobs that the factories and other employers have not been able to fill and are having trouble recruiting workers from other areas because there were no apartments available. Entry level, young factory workers do not or cannot buy a house to move here for a job. They need reasonably priced apartments to move and get settled and then a few years down the road they typically buy a home.
