The overlap area where you can change lanes is stunningly short. If a lot of folks on Bradford are trying to get into Midcity (say for a concert maybe? ) it would make for a real mess with traffic attempting to change lanes.

And we all know how well folks change lanes in Huntsville don't we.

Huntsville really did this on the cheap and I think it will be expensive to unwind it for a better solution.
Aldot is responsible for the ramps, so we get what they did. For concerts there will or should be police traffic control like you see for college football games as an example.
Lack of signs or improperly signed will add to the confusion.
There will be a learning curve no doubt.

It wasn't all that cheap - wasn't it $30-something million?

But you're right - the ramps are somewhat of a mess. ALDOT seems to do things on the cheap in this area with no vision of the future. Maybe that's all they can do given limited resources.

The Parkway/565 interchange needs a do-over, but I think the 565/Research Park interchange is an even bigger mess, given the traffic levels. It was OK 30 years ago but is not so great now.

Well the Amphitheater is over 40 million, ( road ramps ar not part of this) and when finished will be one the premier venues in the south.

Meanwhile the Huntsville METRO, not city, (Limestone and Madison counties only) passed the half million mark last year according to US Census, 502,728.

Exactly. It needs a huge do-over. We will be lucky to see it within 20 years though. One of the biggest frustrations about this state. That area is one of the premier tax generating, wealth building areas of the entire state. It should be a priority.

Ah, this was Aldot at work no further explanation is needed.

Hopefully there will be traffic control for big events.

The "real" metro (Madison, Limestone, Morgan, and Marshall) is about 730,000. New metro definitions will be released next year, so maybe they'll at least include Morgan. The Mazda/Toyota plant has a lot of workers from Morgan coming in, and looking at 565 in the morning rush shows the volume inbound. It's a mess around the Greenbrier area.

FYI the new Mid City Drive ramp off Research Park Blvd is now open. This leads directly to The Orion and Mid City.

Wonder when that happened. I was on Bradford earlier today and the lane from Bradford leading to the Mid City access was still coned off.
