I assume the name is because it is located right on the Huntsville Meridian line?

The community of Meridianville was established along the major north-south road, six miles south of Hazel Green on the line of the base meridian.

The Huntsville meridian begins on the northern boundary of Alabama, in latitude 34° 59′ 27" north, longitude 86° 34′ 16″ west from Greenwich, extends south to latitude 33° 06′ 20″ north, and governs the surveys in the northern district of Alabama.

Within the city of Huntsville, Alabama, Meridian Street coincides with the Huntsville Meridian for most of its length north of US-72. The marker for the Huntsville Meridian is in the Maple Hill Cemetery near downtown Huntsville.

Note Meridian Street in Huntsville and Meridianville are both on the Huntsville Meridian.

Yeah, but it's still a goofy name. Even if were to be incorporated into Huntsville, the name would still be used.

My hometown is Meridian, Mississippi. Hard to pronounce, at least for some.

Anyway, anybody know how many live in the Meridianville area? I know a LOT of houses have been built there lately (e.g., Steger Rd, and adjacent to the Colonial Golf Course). It's certainly a growing area, and it's all single-family; no apartments that I know of.

A metro government like Nashville might be he best move.

Are the large cities (Mobile, Huntsville, etc) in Alabama having some sort of annexation competition?

no, the Meridianville discussion is how will Meridianville handle the rapid growth that is occuring there. The residents of that area laid out options for the future. Annexation was one of them, it was not the City of Huntsville that was involved in the discussion. If the residents want to be annexed then they would approach the city about it. It would be a complicated and long process. If nothing is done then the congestion and sprawl will continue without any real solutions.

A few items on the planned mixed use development downtown on Clinton and Monroe (aka the Coca Cola site).
The City will enter into an agreement in this weeks City Council meeting to develop new roads, street/landscaping and lighting on the site. The new roads will consist of a new connector along Pinhook Creek, north/south, from Clinton to Holmes. Another road will bisect the site (basically splitting it in to two parcels) west/east from this new road to Monroe. All will include lighting and landscaping, along with street/landscaping improvement, on north side of Clinton and the west side of Monroe.

Here is a refresher on the project, from a year ago, but there already appears to be some slight modifications especially the east west road.

Speaking of Meridianville,

Construction is beginning on a $51.4 million apartment complex in Madison County.

Real estate investment firm Advenir Oakley Capital is developing LEO at Flint Crossing. Capstone Building Corp. is the general contractor, and Nequette Architecture and Design is the project’s architect.

LEO at Flint Crossing is located at 141 Patterson Lane in Meridianville.
A 266-unit luxury development on 25 acres, LEO at Flint Crossing will be a craftsman-style cottage community, with 187 buildings, 108 garages and privacy fenced backyards, with units available in one-, two-, and three-bedroom options.

The community will include a clubhouse, fitness center, saltwater pool, cabanas and pool house, playground, gazebos and an artificial turf yard.

Capstone Building Corp. CEO Jay Chapman said the company looks forward “to another great experience in northern Alabama.”

Upgrades planned for Huntsville International Airport.
While not really exciting it is important to keep things updated and improved.

https://www.waff.com/2022/04/28/term...ional-airport/

So, what’s included in this $51.5 million price tag? Swanstrom said we’ll be getting new bathrooms, elevators, escalators, and seating.

“While it might not be as exciting to some to get new bathrooms and escalators, it is going to mean a lot to those who really need access...and it’s going to improve the overall passenger experience here at our airport,” Swanstrom said.

Some other projects include:

Concourse Tile Replacement
Permanent Service Animal Relief Area
Terminal Public Area Renovations
Shared Use Ticketing Renovations
Terminal and Concourse Mechanical Equipment Replacement

And a new cargo hanger is planned.
The air cargo hangar will be more than 110,000 square feet, and the price tag is going to be about $17 million. It will be located on Wall Triana Highway, and leaders hope to begin work on it by the end of May.

Moving forward

The council approved a $239,000 engineering contract with local site architects Matheny Goldmon Architecture + Interiors for “streetscaping and a street plan.” That is far less than the $18 million the city will ultimately invest in the site and a fraction of the $500 million private developer Rocket Development Partners LLC of New York will spend there.

The site plan includes a new parking garage to serve the civic center and the development, 400 multifamily lofts, offices, retail space, food and beverage vendors and a new 200-room convention hotel, city Urban and Economic Development Director Shane Davis said. Tax revenue from the hotel, restaurants, shops and bars will repay the city’s investment.

Also mentioned is the VBC plans what I believe is Phase 2 of its expansion plan. "The site on Clinton Avenue is across from the Von Braun Center’s North Hall, the main ballroom/banquet room officials said the VBC also plans to expand during the development. The commercial development will start this year, city officials expect."

I think an annexing competition between Mobile and Huntsville would be cool. Really the only two cities in the state that could pull one off.... But I imagine Mobile will only have one chance to add new residents (will be about 23k). A certain few of our council members are very adamant on not allowing more white people into the city....
