The project, which will be constructed on the former Sam Hood soccer field, includes a 100,000-square-foot indoor practice facility with a100-yard turf field and running track for the women's track team. Also part of the building is a hall of fame, a 12,000-square-foot student-athlete academic center and an 18,000-square-foot sports medicine translational research center. That latter piece, said John Niemuth, the head architect for AECOM, which designed the facility, sets Marshall apart from the competition.
Now, lets get the remaining $5 million raised so that Mike Hamrick and the Athletic Department can turn their focus on getting the baseball stadium built next.

Yeah I'm all for that! That is the final piece of the puzzle!
Hopefully the vision laid out for the ACF facility a few years ago can still come to fruition. The old ACF parking lot would definitely be the best place for a new baseball field.
I'm starting to think that the old Steiners Trucks property, across the street from HPT, might be the best location in terms of cost to acquire property.
It wouldn't be bad there and CSX actually donated their old softball field to Marshall a few years ago and there was talk of putting the ball field there. I think it never happened though as the surroundings there are not ideal (Flint Pigment Plant), the railroad tracks are even more of a limitation and there was still environmental clean up to be done.
I keep thinking the Steiners property could work because MU already owns a parcel of land in the block, where the MU Child Development Academy currently sits, and also because there is potentially more land to have on the other side of 22nd street as well (the parking lot next to Arby's and the older run down houses and empty lot between Maple Avenue and 6th avenue).
To be honest, I'm not sure if there is anyone in occupying the old Steiners building right now.
I think that MU may have made a mistake in not purchasing the entire block where they are building the new soccer complex because I think there is enough room on that block that the new soccer field and a new baseball field could have been built side by side. The two could have shared the same public restroom and concession facilities with a plaza type layout between the two fields.
Looks Good! The facilities at Marshall are certainly coming up to a competitive level, and hopefully all the money spent will pay off by getting better recruits, winning more games, moving up conference latter, and making more cha-ching!
