The Verteran Memorial Soccer Stadium is complete and it's first match was held, in which The Herd won. I believe that it should be noted that though the stadium capacity was only estimated for 1,006, 1,443 people attended the game. They had to resort to their overflow procedure (utilizing standing attendance.)
I drove by when they were playing last night. VERY nice facility and nice attendance for sure. I'd imagine the increased visibility of this field as compared to the old one will help too! Love how they incorporated the Veterans Memorial into it as well.
I can't wait until the visual arts center is done. That side of the street will look so much better and will add a lot to the feel of downtown. Hopefully Dr. Touma can get ownership of the rest of the complex and renovate that as well.
Very good plan so far. Can't wait to see the building replace where Hussons is now. I'd also like to see a similar building on 4th Ave between 11th and 12th Street. If they could add that building and renovate the Coal Exchange building, that would be a good middle ground for students with a good connection to downtown as well.

This plan seems pretty sweet. Still not too sure about reducing the lanes or about pushing further into downtown but I'm staying open-minded.
MU pushing into downtown does have benefits, some of which can already be seen with the Visual Arts building. It would also be nice if MU puts a nice new mixed-use building on 4th, like they mentioned, and did something with that field across from the library. It could push for some real revitalization in downtown, BUT I think Huntington still has quite the identity outside of Marshall and it would be nice if it could keep that without MU over-running the area. There is a delicate balance with a university and a city of this size that must be maintained.
I still believe that there are better solutions to the pedestrian travel situation than reducing the avenue lanes. No further comment on that one.
