Houston is more racially diverse than NYC now ! Not ethnically, but racially.
Whites are always the majority in NYC, not in Houston.

Yes, you're right Renaud. Let me bring up the information, but don't disregard Dallas either, it's almost there, it's just IMHO about 7 more years away. By the next census it'll be at the same group as Houston.

CSAs by Non-Hispanic Whites as a Percentage of the Total Population, 2008
Minneapolis-St Paul-St Cloud, MN-WI 82.4%...2,935,653
Boston-Manchester-Nashua, MA-RI-NH 79.5%...6,003,963
Cleveland-Akron-Elyria, OH 76.2%...2,202,548
Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia, WA 73.2%...2,994,406
Detroit-Warren-Flint, MI 70.0%...3,751,117
Philadelphia-Camden-Vineland, PA-NJ-DE-MD 67.7%...4,332,178
Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, AZ 58.6%...2,510,423
Chicago-Naperville-Michigan City, IL-IN-WI 56.4%...5,531,148
Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia, DC-MD-VA-WV 55.6%...4,616,198
Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville, GA-AL 54.0%...3,091,629
New York-Newark-Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA 53.6%...11,875,453
San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos, CA 50.6%...1,520,331
Dallas-Ft Worth, TX 50.5%...6,650,206
San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA 45.5%...3,351,099
Houston-Baytown-Huntsville, TX 42.6%...2,484,336
Miami-Ft Lauderdale-Pompano Beach, FL 37.7%...2,044,501
Los Angeles-Long Beach-Riverside, CA 34.9%...6,218,518

Houston is of four CSA's where the majority is below 50%.
As you can see, Dallas is very close too, it's only a matter of a few more years, and consider it done, Dallas will be in the same playground for Racial diversity.

You should come move here! You'll have it "going on" along with the rest of Houston.

It works out well for both cities.
I would definitely say they feel about the same in this regard, having identical number of South Asians.

For example some groups may exist in larger number in one city, but still have a very large presence in another. For example, there are more Vietnamese in Houston, but there are still tons in Dallas. There are more Indians in Dallas, but there are still tons in Houston.

Then there are those groups that prefer one city to another by a large number. For example, the Filipino population of Houston is about double that of Dallas. By the same token, the Korean population of Dallas is about double that of Houston (Dallas is home to the three most famous Korean-American male golfers-YE Yang, KJ Choi, and Antony Kim, but I doubt that has anything to do with why Koreans prefer Dallas). There are also about 15,000-20,000 more Chinese in Houston than Dallas, but Dallas has about 7,000 more Laotians and 3,000 more Khmer (I mention these because there are so few of them in the County period).

Why is this the case? I don't know.
I think it's where some have settled and preferred. When my grandfather came here from India, he picked DC. The Northeast was one of many places where there were plenty of Indians, he got a lot of his friends to relocate here as well, and they came into DC. Spread the word back home, people will come flocking into a particular city because it seems to already have an "established" feel towards their culture.

That's my guess on it.

These numbers don't look right. The population numbers are off between a few cities. Do you have a link?

I don't disregard Dallas, I know it's the most populated metro area of TX ! And maybe it will surpass Chicago metro area one day !

I love your numbers about white percentage, Seattle metro is very white, I didn't know that because Seattle seems very diverse.

Well, if you log into American Factfinder Community Survey on the US Census Bureau website, you can create tables that will give you numbers and percentages.

http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet...=&_lang=en&_ts=

I got that table a long while back, so now I just copy & paste it from some of my older posts.

But you can make them from that site, it's a good place to do comparison.

Best of luck.

Seattle is diverse, just not racially. Asians and Caucasians account for the large majority of their population. Outside of that, they lack in many things. Which is why the come out towards the bottom for racial diversity.

When my Grandparents came from Lebanon, they first went to Paris because they spoke French. Then they went to Montreal. Then when they decided to move to the US (for whatever reason), they ended up in Waco, TX. The only reason they went to Waco was because some ******* played a joke on my Grandfather and told him how beautiful it was and how it was Americas promised land. But he made the best of it. He made a living selling fruit and veggies at a fruit stand and my Mom, uncle, and Aunt turned out ok.

If he had to do it again, he probably would have stayed in Quebec.

Thanks. It appears your numbers were off. Dallas is actually at 54.3% in foreign born population. Houston is at 43.2%.

Dallas-Fort Worth, TX CSA - Selected Characteristics of the Native and Foreign-Born Populations

Houston-Baytown-Huntsville, TX CSA - Selected Characteristics of the Native and Foreign-Born Populations

These are for CSA's as of 2008, by the way. I think metro areas would be a better way at looking at it, but I didn't look those up.

Yeah my numbers could vary, they appeared to be between 2006-2009. So there might be a large difference when they did the comparison.
But the general ball park is nearly identical, Houston, Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Miami are the only cities with a racial non Hispanic white being in the minority.

I'm convinced that by the next census, DFW will be there as well.
