I wouldn't describe it as 3rd world countries since the term "3rd world" came from after WWII and the establishment of the United Nations.

But when the immigration was taking place in NYC at the time, Italians and Polish, basically any country from Eastern and Southern Europe was considered poor. They were also flocking into the US in large numbers, which is when the term "melting pot" was first used, as these people got low paying industrial jobs and lived in slum like areas of NYC. Many of them mixed with one another, which is why the term "melting pot" was coined to explain the diversity and unity of cultures and at that time it specifically was used for NYC.

So what are you trying to say? Because it's three years old, the number of Vietnamese influx into Houston might have trippled than what has been reported three years ago, or are you trying to justify that Dallas also is a growing city with Asians migration.

Interesting numbers and source though. Good work.

All jobs or immigrants are not created equal

Any casual analysis of SF or LA or NYC reveals many Chinese or Viet or Indian/Paki or Mexican or whatever immigrants (many illegal) who show no upward mobility and are taxpayer parasites of dubious net economic value "working" as $100K+/yr bus drivers or unionized, overpaid gvt employees or running small businesses of dubious legality (often w/suspect taxpaying) or living on welfare

Hou would benefit if CA's Chevron or Occidental moved its HQ to suburban Hou, bringing many high-income jobs and tax dollars....or if legal immigrants who are petroleum/chemical/civil engineering grad students at Stanford/Berkeley migrated to Hou for jobs in oil&gas industry

But, like most things in life, top <10% of any population are dramatically more valuable than bottom 90% in economic or intellectual relevance to any region in world, so raw population stats are often useless and usu contra-indicators of economic productivity (China or India's population dwarfs that of US, yet either has trivial per capita money or IQ, whether comparing medians or comparing top 10% crowd)

After all, SiliconValley arguably has world's highest concentration of wealth and IQ around PaloAlto area, yet population of engineers, entrepreneurs and execs (and their families) in SV is <250K people (SF region is ~6MM), perhaps 50% of whom are legal immigrants who came to US for engineering grad school from places like India...IQ and ambition born anywhere in world migrate to best economic/career opportunities: natural selection

No that wasnt my intent. That hasnt changed. Houston has a huge Vietnamese community and its is a very attractive place for Vietnamese people. I pointed that out in my post.

Both Houston and Dallas are booming with Asian immigrants and both are booming with Vietnamese and South Asian (Indian and Pakistani) immigrants. In recent years, Houston is more exclusively popular with Chinese and Filipinos. In recent years, Dallas is more popular with Koreans and the other Southeast Asian nations (Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos).

I don't know, but they do. Its hard to say why any group prefers one city over another.

For example some groups may exist in larger number in one city, but still have a very large presence in another. For example, there are more Vietnamese in Houston, but there are still tons in Dallas. There are more Indians in Dallas, but there are still tons in Houston.

Then there are those groups that prefer one city to another by a large number. For example, the Filipino population of Houston is about double that of Dallas. By the same token, the Korean population of Dallas is about double that of Houston (Dallas is home to the three most famous Korean-American male golfers-YE Yang, KJ Choi, and Antony Kim, but I doubt that has anything to do with why Koreans prefer Dallas). There are also about 15,000-20,000 more Chinese in Houston than Dallas, but Dallas has about 7,000 more Laotians and 3,000 more Khmer (I mention these because there are so few of them in the County period).

Why is this the case? I don't know.

Dallas has about 4,000 more Indians than Houston. 80K to 76K, IIRC.
