I graduated from Eisenhower and it was fine back then. This is interesting though.

I am not defending Aldine School District but I know a couple of kids that went on to to graduate from college.
I know it is not the school district of choice but every school district has its bad apples, grant it some have more than others.

From a former teacher in Aldine I have to agree with much of what the article says. No I wouldnt send my kids there but they do have VERY high expectations for children who normally are given none. What some of these kids accomplish after seeing where they live and what they go thru every day is amazing. I had a handful of parents show up for open house in all 3 years there. Most did not have a Father or know who he was. Many lived with Aunties or Grandmothers. Yet, they were expected to study, make good grades and perform well on the tests. There was no blow off time like we had at the other district I taught. The other district I taught at had NO expectations for these type of kids. ZERO. Aldine had then and obviously still does. Great Job Aldine!

It's obvious you don't like Obama and Democrats, Callo. It's also quite obvious you don't like the "direction" some of our Houston neighborhoods are taking. Why can't you be happy about this award being bestowed upon Aldine I.S.D.? Look at the local media websites. Look at Chron.com. Chron.com has some rather bigoted posters yet when you look at the comments, the vast majority are very proud of Aldine I.S.D.

Why start a thread selling this as bull****?
I actually voted for Obama.

I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of fuzzy math, and the utter disconnect there is between a bloated system and reality. Let's keep politics out of this, shall we?

Please explain your fuzzy math and bloated system comments....Have you ever stepped foot in an Aldine classroom? Did you know Grantham Middle School in Aldine is continuously in the top schools in Texas article in Texas Monthly?
Plus this award is for the best URBAN school. get it.... Urban vs. Suburban
This isnt an award for districts like Katy or Ft Bend.
Just because the school is almost all minority doesnt mean it cannot strive to do the best for it's students.

I'm guessing majority-minority -> "urban" here. Inaccurate, but yeah...

Completely agree.
You know its as if some people in society just don't want to see others who are different from them succeed.
The same people whine about "Why don't 'these people' try to do well in school, pull themselves up and make a better life for themselves?"
Then when some good news comes about, they completely disregard it and refer to it as "BS".

Texas Monthly is very deceitful about how they rate their schools. They don't explain what criteria they use to determine their ratings. Also, they include charter and magnet schools, which aren't nearly the same as a normal public school.

Why can't you just be happy (or at least pretend to be happy) for the school district, the people that work there, and the kids that attend?

If you feel so strongly about this, you can go to every school in the district yourself (even the elementary schools) and tell all the kids how these rankings are BS, how dumb they really are, and how they'll never amount to anything in life.

Will that make you feel better?
