My husband is being relocated to Houston and we are excited about the move, but don't know much about the City. Our main concern is schools - we have 3 elementary age kids and we are coming from Colorado which has great schools. My husband will be working in the Galleria area and we are planning on leasing for a year until we know the area. What are the areas around the Galleria and what are the top school districts in the Houston area? My husband is not opposed to somewhat of a commute - we are more interested in being in a good area with good schools. Any advise would be much appreciated!

Try Sugarland. Good schools.

Come to Cinco Ranch on the west side of Houston. The IH-10 expansion will be finished soon.

Katy has the best schools in the area and the commute to the Galleria area is not bad. PM me with any questions.

Cinco Ranch and Seven Meadows are wonderful communities on the westside, I would also recommend anywhere in Klein ISD.

I would second seven meadows, cinco ranch, grandlakes, basically south katy for good suburbs and good schools, and you can take the tollway to galleria. But innerloop folks will tell you differently of course. Stay within the loop or you will so bored.

don't know if you have already moved but keep in mind all of those districts are very large. If you want one of the best schools systems in the state, check out Friendswood. I actually live in the woodlands north of houston and have three childeren in that system and it is one of the best. However, the small community of Friendswood is invaluable. Check out any rankings and Friendswood is at the top.

as you can see....nobody has recommended the Houston School District. Try to stay on the outskirts of Houston. The drive isn't bad but when you have kids that is the only option for good schools. Cypress Fairbanks I.S.D., Katy I.S.D. are a few options. Good luck.

CY-FAIR, CY-FAIR, CY-FAIR! the best schood district there is.
cy-fair isn't too far out from the galleria & has great schools. closer in to the galleria than katy or rosenberg or sugarland. avoid HISD (houston) at all costs, unless it is around zip code 77019, 77098, 77018, or 77006.
