What are the areas around the Galleria and what are the top school districts in the Houston area? My husband is not opposed to somewhat of a commute - we are more interested in being in a good area with good schools. Any advise would be much appreciated!
Love to hear what are some of the reason's moving from Colorado besides relocation of job?
Love to hear your input. Too long of winters? Miss the ocean? Cost of living cheaper ect...ect..?

I grew up in Houston proper...even then HISD schools were scary. If you move within city limits...go private is all I can say (I went to St. Agnes for high school). DH went to Cy-Fair schools, but at that time he didn't seem to learn anything he needed for college.

Sugarland is good...Katy is supposed to be good...sounds like everyone else here knows what to look for.

I agree with Morrigan. Go for a lesser house and go private no matter where you are. I have friends with children in Katy ISD, Conroe ISD (The Woodlands) and Spring Branch ISD. They claim they are all educational crap, despite what the tests/ranking show. I hear a lot of whining from them when they make the change over to private about how far behind their children are. I think all the public schools in the Metroplex are basically the same, just some are more white than others. HISD has schools just as good and Conroe and Katy, but I don't think that's saying much.
The public school system was much better 10 years ago before this whole "No child left behind" business. I went through HISD at Briargrove, Grady but went private for High School. No way were my parents sending me to Lee. Brairgrove and Grady are still excellent by the way, they are in the Galleria area and are just as good as any xburb school. If your child is a genius, they have the Vangaurd program at TH Rodgers as well. So your husband doesn't really have to commute if he doesn't want to.
