Having lived in both louisiana and texas for good part of 30+ years both New orleans and Galveston have gotten a bad rap. grant you galveston has improved greatly over the years . kemah used to be nothing more than fish camp but boy before the storm it was and I'm sure will be one of the best places to get a oyster poor-boy . Joe-Lee's wa the best but I think that's the "Cadillac Bar" now .galveston has always had great seafood even back when. As Katrina and Rita broke my heart in Louisiana I'm sure if I go back to Galveston now (live in NC now) I would be sad . I've seen pic of crystal beach and boliver and I just want to cry both great fishing places and beer dranking hang outs . I can just say koodles to whoever said a community effort will be needed to bring all back ,because FEMA sucks big time and Allstate insurance and others take up the rest of the hosing. Then watch your taxes and home owner insurance sky rocket as what happen to Florida a lot of the forclosures mess in Fla. is due to homeowners doubling after all their storms the last 7-10 years. all in all texas and louisiana gulf coast rocks that's just my opinion .

Joe Lee's is still around - just not on the waterfront. Located in a small bldg. on fm 2094. From what I hear, the best Oyster po-boy is at Gilhooleys (recently re-opened) in San Leon.
