That initial drop may not be as impressive as the OLD TX CYCLONE, but I'll take it. Love Rollercoasters. However, in keeping with the theme of "cyclone", they should keep the name and have it over water.

I like the first drop better. It drops then curves around to the side.

Also, Muhnay, they don't have as many oil drillers as they used to. I'd still rather stay on the sidewalk. The views, though, are still hard to beat!

I haven't been on the coaster yet and have heard the experience varies according to when you go: on a good day it's reportedly an excellent fast ride but on a bad day it is rougher and slow. Have also heard it's going to be worked over this winter to correct some of these issues, apparently it's not running as fast as it was designed. Definitely want to try it next time I go to Houston though.

As for the original post and the beach in Galveston, that's exceptionally clear water in those pictures. Every time I've been there the water has been murky like a river or bay. A really calm day may help settle the silt though - it does in Corpus at least. That concrete seawall is also not the prettiest either (if it's still there). Beaches on the western Gulf of Mexico are inconsistent at best: South Padre is probably the best spot in the state but the water at Boca Chica just to the south is often murky. Some of the beaches in Tamaulipas are also OK. At Veracruz the Gulf was muddy the time I was there but I've seen pictures of some glorious looking places to the north and south of town (still liked the city though!).

Hey RSTRSTX, is there any stretch of beach in Texas, that mimics the water in Florida, that nice emerald green/blue?

For some reason I recall seeing water like that in Corpus once.. but my memory may be a little vague.

I guess South Padre would come the closest, reminds me of the darker Atlantic water more than the beautiful clear water off the Gulf. Yvou can Google Earth it and look at beaches from about 1 km above the surface to get an idea what the water and some extent what the sand color looks like, then go compare it to water at the Galveston and Florida etc or wherever. I know the satelite can catch some places on bad hair days and others in perfect condition, but at least for the SPI and Galveston images those bird's eye views are a pretty typical look at what you can expect

Galveston beaches are excellent. We live on the West end where there is less population and more open area's.
