hey honieb--back to small world again... I'm originally from NJ (just outside of Manhanttan). Would move back up there in AN INSTANT!! Way toooo expensive though.

Yes, I was impressed by the schools in The Woodlands too. Since they are all in Conroe ISD, I didn't know how the new ones in Creekside will be since they will be in Tomball ISD. May not matter... could just be semantics but since Deretchin and Tough ES are in Conroe ISD and are so good, I'd prefer my kids to go there.

Hi again,

I know there are all different price ranges in The Woodlands. If you like, I can put you in touch with a very good realtor....the one we used. Either way, I think most all of the neighborhoods in the Woodlands are good....just about every elementary school is rated exemplary. You can even wind up with a larger house than you think you can get for your money....although it may be a bit older. But the older houses are just as lovely as the newer ones, with the exception that you may have to update some things. Let me know if I can email you with the realtor info.

Also, please check out the Woodlands Information Center....they have info on just about everything, including renting and recreational activities, etc.

Raquelo , look in Stirling Ridge and Alden Bridge they are two of the newer communities in The Woodlands and are very nice . You can find very , very nice homes for under $ 250 K , an equivalent home in Pembroke Pines or Weston would be $ 550 - $ 600 K .

Make sure you check out the shopping areas including the Mall and Market Street in Town Center . You should also check out Sienna Plantation and Riverstone near Sugarland , also beautiful homes and good schools . As a previous poster mentioned go to the Woodlands Welcome Center before you do anything else first . While in Houston make sure you visit the Uptown
( Galleria area ) River Oaks , Downtown and the Museum District .

Remember the schools are excellent in The Woodlands !!

Good Luck

Of course the affordable housing was what piqued our interest in TX to begin with. If we were to stay in FL we would have to enroll our children in private school...I just don't like the way the public school system is run here. I'm originally from NYC and public schools in NYC were never that great, either. So most everyone I knew went to private or parochial schools.

But I'm hoping with the way the schools in The Woodlands are being touted that we'll be able to enjoy what they have to offer. I guess this is why property taxes in TX are so high, too. But, yeah, BIG difference in housing market in both DC and FL. Good luck!
Katy I.S.D. is better than both Tomball I.S.D. and Conroe I.S.D. Katy I.S.D. is the largest Texas school district to recieve an recognized status (it was Exemplary until Texas changed its standards).

I think the Woodlands should had made its own school district when it was formed 20 years ago. Having kids split between school districts is kind of hard. You will like Woodlands though. Not far from the hills in Conroe, and it is very wooded. They also have strict codes for buildings. Check out these photos:

Default Also moving from Ft. Lauderdale to the Woodlands!

Hi! It is a small world -My husband and I will also be moving to the Woodlands in May from Ft. Lauderdale! (my sister lives in Weston). We will be visiting the Woodlands looking at new homes in Sterling Ridge January 4th. This will be our 4th or 5th trip and we love it more and more each time we visit and are looking forward to our move. We discovered the Woodlands online and visited to see if it really was as wonderful as it seemed... and we think it is! Also, the people we've met there are so nice and friendly. Currently we are renting in downtown Ft. Lauderdale off of Las Olas but it is just too expensive these days to purchase anything here so we decided to look out of the state and we want to be near or in a big city with warm weather and not too far from a beach. Our children are older (one in college and one graduated out on his own) so we do not have to worry about the schools or the commute to downtown Houston as my husband works from home. Actually, the Woodlands offers so many choices that we are having a hard time deciding which part we prefer and whether to buy a resale or new.

Default Small World -- Again

Hi Kmarti,

We did basically the same thing...found out about the Woodlands online, asked some realtors about it, went to look, fell in love, etc. I'm starting to think all the people in the Woodlands are from Florida! lol We opted for a resale...but it's only 2 1/2 years old. I think no matter what part you choose, you're going to love it there. Good luck with your home search!

Maybe we can hook up once we're there, since we'll both be learning the area. What a coincidence.

We live in The Meadows in the North West area of Weston , in front of Gator Run elementary school . We love it here , but my company made me an offer I could not refuse in Houston , Texas . We wanted something similar to Weston you know upscale with good schools , parks , entertainment , etc and The Woodlands was it !!

I will only have to commute to The Galleria area ( Uptown ) in Houston once or twice a week , the rest of the time I will be working from home in The Woodlands .

We will not be moving until the summer when our daughters finish the school year , although we are having a hard time selling our house here as the once hot market is really cooling off !!

Would love to hook up and chat , anyhow the last time I was in The Woodlands with my wife looking at homes we met two couples and their children at one of the parks who had just relocated from Weston as well !!
