Not that anyone cares... my company told everyone to work from home if possible, and NOT come into the office. How bad is it when instead of being thankful, I am just thinking why this could not happen on Wednesday instead.

Just kidding of course... stay dry.
My company says to stay home in the morning but come in Tuesday afternoon. I'm hoping it's all cleared out by then. But if it's still bad I'll just stay home all day. I'm probably one of the few people who hate missing work for storms. Just means I have twice as much work when I go back the next day.

Actually, the local news aren't as bad as CNN. Relatives from out of states kept watching that "d!" station and panic . My phone kept ringing. They won't believe that we're fine and what they saw was at another location in Houston.

Some local news actually had educated us alot about storms in the Gulf. Knowledge is priceless, the more we know, the less we get nervous. Plus, the more we're prepared, the less the worry later on.

Thus, my advise is to be prepared as much as you can. For this storm, as many already mentioned, be prepared in case of flood and power outage. Don't wait until the weather gets so bad to go to the store. Even if nothing happens, you're not a loss. Most of those items can be used until next storm.
And then there are these idiots : Necessities running low as Houston prepares for storm, flooding | News - Home.

You would think the end of days is here. I swear this country is getting dumber by the second.

It looks like it may be worse in the afternoon. My husband has this idea that he can go in to work late. I am worried he will have trouble getting home.

If people are going to use this as an excuse to possibly over react, and build a preparedness kit, then so be it.
Some people lost a lot from the Memorial day storms(we had a friend with 3ft of water in their home) and some people lost lives.
No reason to make jokes about being prepared.

We have always kept a kit at home. Water, food for us and the dogs, batteries, candles and buckets to fill for water to flush and such.
We also keep a kit in the truck; a first aid kit, extra clothes, basic toiletries, water, food(once again us, and the dogs) and some emergency car supplies(such as the window breaking hammers, cables and a tow rope) we haven't used it for a storm yet BUT we have stayed comfortably over at friends home after a party went longer then expected, towed someone out with the tow chain and passed out quite a few band aids.

Hope everyone stays safe this evening and tomorrow.

These people are acting like we will get 15 inches of rain 70mph to 90mph wind and a good part of Houston will lose power for 4 to 10 days I saw a guy on the news earlier he had 4 cases of water. This storm is barely a tropical storm.

I have 7 cases of water. But I have several animals to consider and people as well. My house is the only one that uses my transformer so if I do have a power outage, it will be out for quite some time. If power does not go out, then I won't have to buy any water for a couple of weeks or so. Not a big deal and I do not see myself as an idiot. Maybe they are in my boat and have many lives to consider that need access to fresh drinking water if it comes down to it.

Yes but 11 inches in 4 1/2 to 5 hrs is worse than 8 inches over 18 hrs Houston can handle that

Sorry that you Houston newbies aren't seeing the sensational storm you'd like to see. I for one, am glad the storm went in lower down the coast. The news media does overreact but in a way they sort of have to do that so people arent blindsided. Tropical storms are so unpredictable -- you can expect the worst and wow -- nothing, nada. You can expect nothing and wow the whole city goes under like tropical storm Allison and you're stuck out in it. But for now I'm forced to decide - not much going on right now in terms of weather so do I go to work as usual and potentially get stuck there or stay in perhaps for nothing and lose a day of work and getting stuff done.
