I know. Especially because a lot of other Exxon people are coming soon. I'm trying to close in July every good home I see in the 400K range is pending a sale . I graduate in three weeks and I'm heading down there the day after before I'm priced out of the market.

Why can't Stratford be an example of successfully invigorating a mediocre school without 'magnet'-izing, one that is possible in other parts of town? How short the memories are here... or possibly my perspective is skewed since my family has been in the Houston area for 40 years now?
.
Huh? Invigorating a mediocre school? Huh?
Guess that is the thing about a "perspective".... Honestly, I don't think that you will find many people (but obviously some out there that may think like you) that would have called Stratford mediocre.

And in another thread someone said that people were skipping over 77079 for Katy? 77079 has always been a solid area...perhaps they were jumping because they could not afford 77079...or wanted one of those huge cookie cutter homes. Lets not act like 77079 has suddenly, out of the blue, become a desirable area. The fact that it is HOT now was not created overnight...it has become so because it was "built" on a solid foundation...schools included...even Stratford. You don't just turn on a switch and make that happen.

Saying that, I think the neighborhoods of 77079 flew under the radar for years and have been quietly overshadowed by its flashier 77024 neighbor the east. And honestly, I think that is a draw for many people.

I agree. Strange comments about Stratford. We moved here over 25 years ago from Southampton specifically for the good school district.

I will pick you up tomorrow to see it, elnina. Looks like a winner!

I wondered how the house changed color - then I realized it is BEHIND the other little one. Easy to get blocked in.

OK, elnina and I will stop by and get you, too.

My favorite part is how handily close that hot water heater is to the bath sink and tub.

Well Houston you got what you asked for. You wanted to be a mecca for all the East and West Coast folks, and now you are.

You will continue to be until the prices are similar to the East and West Coasts. At that point, people will start looking at things like amenities, public parks, public transportation, traffic commute times, etc... and it won't look pretty.

Right now all you have to offer is price. Once that runs out, what will you have to offer? There are many other sunbelt cities that offer a whole lot more space and will start to become more desirable than the traffic mess that is Houston. Austin springs to mind. Yes we have traffic but we have greenbelts all throughout our city. We have paid attention to quality of life, not only focusing on business.

At some point you will have to pay the piper (literally).
