Because of work, the family is moving to Houston. We are looking into the inner loop area, galleria, montrose, midtown area. Mainly because we have 2 small kids (1y/o & 3y/o) who do not tolerate long distance driving, they get car sick even 10 mins. driving, sooo not fun. :-( Where is the recommended place to live? So we can just walk to parks, dining areas, dept. stores. Any experience on good apartments? Thanks...

What's your budget? Walkable areas in town tend to be quite more expensive, since everyone also wants to live there.

Moving to Houston = post your budget ASAP because we really can't help you or know what you're looking for without it especially if you want to live in the Loop, safe and walkable.

Too many are moving to Houston with what seems like really great paying jobs but want to spend peanuts on rent yet want everything and the kitchen sink - super super safe, walkable to everything, under 20 minute commute and rainbows and sunshine for a 2-3 bedroom for $800 max or go $1000 for all that and more than 1 bedroom and safe and all that jazz.

Not gonna happen in the Loop unless you sacrifice safe or something else.

There are plenty of good apartments, but it is going to cost you. Also, I don't think any good ones will give you less than a 13 month lease. Two bedrooms in a good location will run you 2000 a month. Midtown is the only place where you can truly walk to go eat. If you want to be close to a park then I would do 2121 Amli. The Galleria area might suit you, but traffic is brutal there. Midtown is the most expensive to live in Houston. Montrose is the second most. Galleria probably third most. Good luck! If you want some recommendations of specific complexes feel free to ask. I have friends that have lived in just about everyone inside the loop.

Thank you. :-) We are interested in Montrose. Do you know a short term accommodation in the area or a good hotel? so we can stay there first and then look around?

Welcome to Houston! You're very good with that budget.

Play around on Houston Real estate, Houston homes, Houston Realtors - HAR.com with your budget and areas you're interested in. Where will you be working? If you live in the Galleria area be prepared with the baby Dramamine because you'll be in the car for awhile. It takes 15 minutes to love inches most of the time and during peak hours

With small kids I'd go for a townhouse over an apartment especially if you have the money and you do with a really flexible budget.

Here's a nice townhouse in Midtown:

3018 Caroline, Houston, TX 77004 - HAR.com
Thank you for the link. Apartments have swimming pools that's why we are looking into them. :-) Although there could be on houses too but could be too high priced. Will be working at 77004 area.
