Also, the Heights may be more family friendly due to the neighborhood feel. Not quite as many restaurants, but many aren't far away. Plenty of parks.

You should be able to rent a house or townhouse easily in both of those area with that budget.

Where are you moving from? Have you been to Houston before? Walkable is not impossible, I just don't think it's going to be what you expect. How long are you staying? If you're staying until your kids start school that is going to make a major difference.

Staying for 13 months so kids don't need school. Yes, have visited Houston before on short visits. Moving from Scandinavia. :-)

Welcome! Some of the nicest people I've known are from Scandinavia. I guess you know our walk-ability is not what you're used to. I think you've been given good advice on areas especially since your kids won't be needing school. I think with a wife and small children your #1 goal should be safety. Be sure to look up the sex offender registry of wherever you are seriously considering to rule out any that will be very close to you. Good luck and enjoy your stay!

Find an apartment with more than one pool. Most of the Midtown and Montrose apartments are almost all full of singles. The pools are party places. Some complexes have two pools. One tame and quite and one with tons of drunk people. I personally prefer the latter, but I doubt that is what you are going for.

Hi, can you give some insights on these apartments: Midtown Arbor Place, Fairmont Museum District and Pearl Greenway? Pros and cons would be appreciated. Have read some reviews but not all clear. Thanks.

I prefer The Heights over Montrose. Just look to be a few blocks from White Oak.
