I pay more money out of each paycheck and therefore have less nice stuff, and another man feels freed up to go check on that lump in his armpit. I continue to have less nice stuff, and another man lives because he's not afraid a doctor visit will break his family's bank account.

Please, people. Is a low tax rate really more important than human decency?
This country has never had universal health care, and it's not like there are mass people dying in streets from a lack of health. Just like if they got rid of food stamps I seriously doubt there would be mass starvation in streets.

Who cares? You can have low taxes and high taxes and apparently it works out the same then. So obviously taxes have little to do with it.

It's pretty easy to give 50% of your check to a charity when you are not making $50,000 and 90% of your salary goes to pay for food, gas and housing.

Um, this is not exactly true, but rather an artifact of data collection. The supporting data were collected from the IRS. Conservatives are more likely to donate to their church - and then also to claim the deduction on their taxes. My donations to Human Rights Campaign, for example, are not tax deductible, while the members of the Westboro Baptist Church can write off all their donations underwriting funeral picket lines.

If you take away church donations you will find that liberals have the edge, and the gay population actually comes out as very generous.

A debate on who is more generous...wow. It's like arguing who is more humble.

I'd like to know how they find out that conservatives give more to charity than liberals.... maybe they have a direct line to God to give them that answer.

WHO CARES? I know one thing God gives us a direct line about and that's to not judge.

I don't mind paying higher taxes when it is for the greater good. Which is why I voted for the bond increases last election. I don't really see lower taxes as a huge bragging right. I just think we invest less in our community and it's future. This can come back to bite you in the ass later. I grew up in Houston. I got a good education in HISD believe it or not. It got me into a very good college. I now have a great job. I think of it as paying it forward.

Everyone judges. It is human nature. And, believe it or not. Liberals go to church also. I know tons of conservatives that don't go. I also, don't see what any of this has to do with taxes.
