Tell that to all the people that are filling up the Compaq Center.

Houston just amazes me with their great planning. Just amazing.

I'd rather let the thing stand and rot than to tear it down and get a parking lot.

You are kidding me right? Reliant Park is almost half the size of Downtown Dallas. It is 350 acres. Downtown Houston is 1,100 acres.
I actually like Reliant where it is. Its not here or there in terms of location. What is silly about locating it downtown is that it would take up about a quarter of downtown. Downtown would also probably be too expensive to host such a venue.

The Area contains Reliant Stadium, Reliant Arena, Reliant Center, Reliant Astrodome, Jagflo Speedway at Reliant Park.... and covers over 40 city blocks.

It would probably even be a pain locating it in EADO there would be just too many streets that would have to be interrupted. The Little Dynamo stadium eats up 8 city blocks. And Parking across the street takes up another 8. Can you imagine what Reliant park would eat up? Would probably cost a billion just to buy the land and clear the area.

It would be nice if Reliant Park was right up against downtown, but not feasible. Anyway it is easily accessible from downtown by rail, so it is more than adequately located.

Well, it's a very profitable business
the downside is that they don't pay taxes

I believe the reason that the Texans are behind the parking lot idea is to land another Superbowl. As far as the rodeo folks, I don't know what their reasons for wanting so much parking is.

Seriously? 2500 more parking spots are gonna help Houston get the Superbowl?
If that's the case, why doesn't anybody propose building those 2500 parking spots on the other side of Reliant where the Methodist training center is located
and I bet it would cost almost nothing to do it

Let me guess.... the 2,500 parking lots to get the Superbowl is just a bunch of BS to get people to support tearing down the Astrodome.

Just build a parking garage Reliant!!! All that land across 610 could be a mega garage with walkways across 610 to tailgate and stadium. I like the astrodome...It is what Houston is known for besides NASA. Ahh NASA and Astro go together make it a space/sports museum.

Does anybody have any good theory of why "they" are so obsessed with demolishing the Astrodome?

Its the cost of maintaining an empty building

Insurance on that thing is a MOTHER

The thing I don't understand is that the City spends millions a year on city improvements that don't necessarily have a financial profit (Public parks, beautification projects, Playing fields), Why not spend $200M and make some money out of the thing?
