I would actually pair Memorial Park to Prospect Park. Both parks are less urban than their cities' main park. They're more natural.

does houston have a park with good water features, restaurants, skating rink/several ponds, a dozen baseball fields and tennis courts etc with people regularly visiting it after school or work, and you can drive thru the park for a scenic view? and does not have a golf course (too rich)
Dude it's Houston - not New York (thank goodness). This is our park and it is a nice park. New York has their park, we have ours just as every other city has their parks. People enjoy them and that is what counts (not how it stacks up to the park of another city).

Default Hermann is a great park for children.

On a different note, can anyone tell me about public transport links from Buffalo Speedway to the Medical Center?

We have found the people very friendly, but the move has been stressful to say the least! Therefore, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hermann Park is a child friendly park. I take my toddler there every weekend after our visit to the Houston Children's Museum. Hermann Park is near the Museum District and attached to the Houston Zoo. There is a pond, a Japanese Garden, a Garden Center, the Museum of Natural History, Miller Outdoor Theater which has plays, musicals, and other events for families, three playground areas for all various age groups including one for toddlers, and the Houston Children's Museum is just a few blocks away.

There is plenty of things to do at Hermann Park and within that general area. The children can even take a little train ride around the park. With the zoo and the museums near by your children will never be bored.

Hermann Park is similar to Hyde Park in London with the exception of having the zoo, the Miller Outdoor Theater, and being a little larger in size.

Also, welcome to Houston.

there is a local bus that goes from Buffalo Speedway to the medical center on Holcombe Blvd. I believe it stops at the Randalls shopping center at that intersection.
Churches would be her best bet to meet other moms in the area
