basset is the only store i've been to that had quality furniture that couldn't be described as "rustic", "texan", or "fit for a largely profitable pimp". seriously some stores here have messed up taste. aside from basset i have found random pieces/sets at gallery furniture and the other big box like furniture stores (ashley, rooms to go) but finding something classic/streamlined there is really a gamble.

high fashion home has some nice pieces but their quality is iffy

but by all means if your tastes fall in line with gold embellishments, large wooden pieces (like the size of a car), or anything that looks like animal hide you are in the right place

Hahaha. Hits a chord with me.

OP: I haven't been to Bassett but I like Star myself. They're limited in the contemporary furniture selection though and you should wait for their frequent sales since their furniture is slightly overpriced. Roomstore also has some nice stuff of decent quality. Search other threads, this question has been addressed before. Congrats on your new house!

Bassett is absolutely crazy expensive. More reasonable priced I buy my stuff from Danish Inspiration or Lazzoni Furniture. European or Asian made and very good quality contemporary furniture. Many other places on Hilcroft or Harwin

Bassett makes some pretty good stuff. We got our dining room, master bedroom, and living room furniture there. Guest room furniture was from Star.

We've found some great reasonably priced pieces at this place called Nadeau in Rice Village. All pieces are responsibly sourced.
