I am looking to pick up some new furniture, and just wanted to get people's input on a few places.

First, I have been looking at Star, Bassett, and Gallery thus far. I have not found anything that I really liked. Especially at Gallery, I don't care much for that place. Star seems ok, but not exactly my style. I am going tomorrow to look at Noel furniture off of 59 and Kirby, and I also found a place online in Houston called Danish inspirations. Has anyone had any luck with these locations regarding their service, product quality, etc..?

I read alot of people on here mention Bel furniture. Which store is their main location in Houston? I looked online and they have 4-5 locations, and I don't want to waste my time going to their smaller locations that don't have as much to look at.

I am also planning to go to Louis Shanks tomorrow as well, any other recommendations? My style is more of a comfortable contemporary...nothing too futuristic and uncomfortable, I don't want "art" furniture, but I also do not want big stuffy, old world charm either.

Thanks in advance.

Check High Fashion Home Center off Elgin downtown. Chic Warehouse on Yale, Brandon's out off of Westpark and Fondren.

We have Bassett furniture (bought in Las Vegas) and were actually disappointed, great quality however, our orders were not what we had expected. We received the wrong table top and table legs to our dining room set. Wait, that must be the wrong table then... It took Bassett about a year to finally fix the issue. Reminder: This happened in Las Vegas and not Houston, so maybe Houston management handles these types of situations better. And maybe they have a more knowledgeable sales team!

Thanks for the info on Chic's and High Fashion, I looked at High Fashion online for a bit, and it seems close to our style, so hopefully we may find some pieces there that we like. Chic's as well got good reviews online, but no website, so who knows. Brandon's however looks very very classical and ornate, which is not my favorite look.

Seems to me that Fondren between Wesheimer and Westpark, has alot of furniture stores. Louis Shank, Brandon's, Danish inspirations, etc...too bad Shanks is closed on Sundays.

Anyone know what Bel's to go to? Claremont seems to be the main one, but I wanted to be sure. They have a distribution center off of Westpark, by the westchase district, not sure if that is for regulary consumers or just a warehouse where they ship from and such.

Bel is pure junk! Most gaudiest stuff you ever want to see. I imagine if you sift through their stuff long enough, you may find something, but I went in their new location in League City once, and couldn't wait to get out. Happy hunting!

This may come too close to the "art furniture" but there are some great vintage modern furniture stores around town. Cool Stuff on Westheimer, there are several in the yellow brick shopping center on Milam one block south of where High Fashion is, and I think it is called mid-century pavilion on Washington just east of Tayler/Sawyer.

I assume you have already looked at the places in Highland Village like Crate & Barrel,Z Gallerie and West Elm?

Also, you might check out Design within Reach in the River Oaks shopping center, but again, kind of close to the "art furniture" category although often times no more pricey than Louis Shanks or something like that.

On Brandon's, yes, they do lean towards the type of furnishing that are more traditional although sometimes there are some decent modern pieces, but generally they are more of the exception than the rule.

I shopped at the Bel that is in Humble and it was very large. How much is your budget to furnish your house? You can furnish a whole house for about 15k at Bels but at Louis Shanks your probably looking at 30k+.

Gallery furniture? Order today deliver tonite!!!!

Can't recommend them but they and 'rooms to go' seem to specialise in annoying, saturation advertising that means I'll never buy anything from them
