was using Downtown as the starting point since 80% of the buses head that way or close to it. Radiating from there it takes less time to get to Greenspoint than to the Galleria. However, there are many many many more buses heading out to the Galleria than to Greenspoint. The post just made it sound like getting to Greenspoint was long and arduous

It is not different at all from the SW. Even a trip through Montrose and the Heights involves quite a bit of walking depending on where you are going. and bus service to east of downtown is almost non existent, bus service to 3rd ward in areas not around UH is inconsistent. There is the 60 and the 5, but those take similar routes and no a lot of places are covered. If you are try to go lower to the area south of OST then good luck. as the area between the reliant center and the loop, good luck there too. The inner loop on a whole is below average honestly. The only good area is from Bellaire/Holcolme between 610 and Main/Fanin going north to Westheimer, and the downtown/ Midtown area. That is it. the other 75% of the inner loop sucks butt.

Thanks lonestar would you happen to have any information about the. General metro does it run daily I know some routes are 24 hours like westheimer and points off to the west would anyone happen to have metro's phone number? With the price of gas it seems its cheaper to do the park and ride a half an hour into town anyway.or just get on the regular metro line for less.

Metro 713-635-4000

Most buses run daily.

Wow@ htown and I have heard there are way more lines on the west side of town as opposed to the east but if you were commuting from downtown to pasadena aren't there feeder routes that connect the city with the suburbs? I heard they have them down in sugarland in fort bend county because technically. The metro service area ends around the stafford and beltway 8 region so I'm assuming people just use the local transit to arrive at their destinations. More info is needed!

Thanks for that number htown. And I currently live in Ohio way out in the boonies. You have to ride the bus for 45 mins just to get to walmart there is only one bus an hour.

Yeah there are buses going out east but they are no where near as numerous as those going west. keep in mind that those eastern cities(pasadena, Deer Park, etc ) and eastern Houston amount to about 400K people. The SW portion inside the beltway alone amounts to about 1.25M people, together with Sugarland and Missouri City amount to about 2M people. So the customer base is much bigger going west than east.

a lot of people who live in the suburbs use the park and ride system where they drive to the nearest park and ride and then use the buses which run on the freeways to get into town. most use the HOV lanes so they are very efficient

lol, from my aunts house to my brother's house (both within Houston city limits) takes 2hrs by bus. It takes 3 buses and if you catch them back to back without gaps it takes 2hrs and that is going in a straight line from the north to the south (or vice versa). Going from downtown to West Oaks mall can take almost 2hrs to get to during rush hr and that is using one bus.

Some buses run 7 days a week, some less. It depends on the route. Some run nearly 24 hours a day...I actually think that the 82 does. Other run only much less frequently.

The metro is a pretty good bus system as far as bus transportation goes....but it's still a bus. Sometimes it is very convenient for you based on where you're going, and sometimes it isn't. Check Metro's website for the system map and bus schedules.

I talked with a metro representative today and an additional point would be that yes there are more routes and denser population on the west and sw side of town but the Harris county transit does provide vans / shuttles to the areas on the east sid3 of town outside of the metro service area such as pasadena and baytown.

Overall Houston is not a mass transit city. If you are going to ride a bus you need to plan where to live and work. Pearland and Sugarland are not part of Metro. They don't pay taxes for it and receive virtually no service. I would be hesitant about living near Greenspoint (gunspoint?).
