This is a general question how much does it cost to ride the metro? Is it cheaper than driving? About how much do cab fares run in Houston?

it costs $1.25 for a single ride if you're paying with cash. if you use a q card, then you get 2 free transfers to use within 3 hours. the q cards are free, i think, at least mine were, and i picked mine up from fiesta grocery store.

btw, with some of the places i've lived, the cost of public transportation here is a steal.

i'm not sure of the cost of taxis, but you can go here to get a general idea. they can give you an estimate of the fare if you know the starting point and destination.

from what i've seen, there are plenty of apartments near bus lines. it just depends on how much you're willing to pay, and how far you're willing to walk.
