In and around the center of the city, it's not perfect but it gets the job done.

Further out and it's spotty at best.

METRO works if you're not in too much of a hurry to get anywhere.

houston like s. california is car oriented. houston has become thug oriented so much more the reason for the car---its the only option with mean streets.

is the crime really bad in Houston?
I was just looking at Realtor.com and I cannot believe how much house you get for so little money. So I was starting to wonder if there is a reason why??? Is it a crime thing?

No, crime is low in Houston, check the most dangerous cities list and you won't see Houston on there.

Houston's transportation sucks for now but, 4 new rail lines are about to start construction.

I have never had anything even remotely threatening happen to me riding METRO. Also, a lot of the crime in the city is car related - burglaries, thefts, even carjackings.

Really though, a car is not as safe a bubble as some think, unless it travels faster than bullets.

no stranger to the big city, subway seat safer than a locked ford escort going thru the poor side of town at night, i dont think so.
