Smart thinking.

I just had a therma tru fiberglass door installed by a local building company a few months ago and a storm door as well. It was more expensive than the big box store, but I love it. it wasn't something I could do myself, and knew it wasn't going to be changed any time soon so I felt the extra cost was justified.

I had the door painted by the manufacturer for a minimal cost as well. Info I was given by many was to NOT use the big box company for installation since hanging a door isn't for a novice. As they often have frequent turnover and also contract out you want to be sure someone with experience does the installation.

My 2 guys were awesome, they'd worked together for decades and hardly spoke to one another they knew their craft so well and anticipated each other's next move.

Good luck

What you "need" is a door- for whatever reason (termites isn't one of them- a f/glass door has just as much WOOD as a steel door). What you "want" is a f/glass door, for what?

Steel and f/glass doors have about the same R-value. The real energy savings comes from a well insulated jamb/RO, good weatherstripping, and a correctly aligned door.

Oh, and by-the-way I've seen steel 6 panel doors painted to look like wood- one I even had to do a double-take it was done so well.
