My neighbors swear by Behr, but I was wondering if anyone has a favorite brand and why? There are so many to choose from, not to mention each brand has their own colors too. And Home Depot carries different brands than Lowes, then there are stand a lone paint shops like Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore. Need help deciding! Thanks!!

Good morning, I normally use either Valspar (American Tradition) from Lowes, or Glidden from Home Depot. If you tell me what you are painting I will make suggestions. Personally as to Behr, they have a billion dollar adv. budget and owned by H.D., there eggshell finish is decent, hate the trim paint, ect.

I really like Benjamin Moore. The finishes always look very nice and it seems to give good coverage. I also like Sherwin Williams. I have used Behr...it was fine but it seems a little thick to me.

I'm partial to Sears paint, especially the satin finish. Inexpensive, goes on easily, tons of colors, lasts forever.

Benjamin moore all the way - although pricey so we tend to use it in "important" areas like the exterior, trim and rooms most people see. For the bedrooms I usually get Behr at home depot.

I, too, like Behr for interior work. I've tried all the others and find myself going back to Behr every time. For exterior - we use LoXon by Sherwin Williams. It is for masonry and is expensive but worth every penny!

Sherwin Williams Cashmere. Yes, it costs more. But the difference is noticeable. It gives such a nice, even, smooth finish. I use that myself and my painters, who don't suck (really!) but took forever to find (after going through 3 other painting companies) swear by it as well. Just don't use contractor grade, it's worth the extra few dollars to use quality paint when you're going through that much work and/or expense.

I have found more important than the brand is the preperation... excellent preperation with a cheaper brand will perform much much better than mediocore preperation with an expensive brand.
