Welcome to the hockey forum, happynoodleboycey; haven't seen you here before. I knew that hockey began getting more press in Ireland when Brendan Shanahan played for the Wings. Didn't know it had a following in England as well. Bit more lively than cricket, eh? Although I daresay some of your rugby players could fend for themselves on ice, assuming they skate, that is.

Owen Nolan, Sid Finney, Bobby Kirk, Jim McFadden, Sammy McManus and Jack Riley were all NHL players that are Irish.
Using the US Hockey Hall of Fame (never heard of it) as your measure is completely erroneous. Of course Minnesota and Mass are at the top of this scewed stat.
Why dont you use the # of current and former NHL players, . . . or the Real Hockey Hall of fame.
Then you would find Saskatchewan and Ontario at the top.
Although due the the greatness of hockey and the rest of the world finally recognizing this, . . . the % of Canadian players in the big leagues is declining.
Amen to New Jersey being on the rise. As kids playing hockey in Jersey we always looked up to Jim Dowd as a God. He was the one player from Jersey in the league and we all wanted to be like him. Now with JVR and Bobby Ryan ( Two #2 picks in the NHL draft ) it seems like we are about to have not just players but superstars shining for our state.
I think Dowd was the only realy NJ prospect since ryan didn't play NJ HS hockey.
