Habs. Losing Price for the majority of the season was a killer blow. They're a great team at full health. If they land Matthews the chances will be even greater.
They have a few things that they need to do:
Management/coaching needs to change. Therrien is ridiculous.
Should have NEVER traded Weise... And Smith-Pelly. WTH???
Stop playing Desharnais so much. He is awful.
Subban is good (GREAT actually) but he should not be the primary puck-carrier/offensive trigger. Get him back to his old role of being a terrific blue-liner with a bomb or a shot; not a Bobby Orr wannabee.
Markov is getting too old to be paired with Subban. Pair him up with someone up to speed.
Montreal is currently the closest, but they need considerable re-tooling if they're going to be serious about it within the next few years. Otherwise, keep an eye out for Calgary, Johnny hockey is a genuine rising star, add a few more good players and manage it well and they could be a legit contender.

Johnny is an amazing player... I'm just scared he might get crushed one day. He's only around 150lbs!!!
i pick Montreal, but i would love to see the Maple Leafs end their drought, maybe the Cubs winning the World Series has motivated them somehow
Montreal... Maybe... I can see the Oilers picking up some steam in the near future.
Montreal, only if Price stays healthy. Their offense is still severely lacking, and the only majore thing they did during the off-season was acquire Radulov. Defense was never an issue. Trading Subban for Weber was a waste. If they really wanted to trade Subban, trade him for a solid first-line forward.
Montreal (with the necessary retooling), or Edmonton (when McDavid and company come of age, and their veteran reinforcements hold up long enough before the McDavid generation peak)...
The Habs, if healthy, have about a 2-year window wherein I think they can win it. If they don't within that period of time, I think the Oilers and Leafs will be serious contenders.

I doubt it, but that's just me.
Just looking at their past few games indicate that they are still too reliant on Price. He's been off lately, and the result has been some poor losses and lackluster play.
Therrien's system just doesn't work. It's the same nonsense as last season. Rely on Price, come out strong and win games in the beginning of the season, but once teams get comfortable/more experienced playing together, the Habs start to fall. The only smart move they made during the offseason was acquiring Radulov.
That said, I can see the Oilers taking it in a few years.
Edmonton - as hard as it is to comprehend, yeah, I'd say Edmonton.
McD is legit - it only took them like 23 1st overall picks in the draft in the last 10 years (get it?) to finally get a franchise player.
