...The town has sent seven hockey players to the Olympics since 1956 — four of them from the same family, the Christians — and each one has returned with a medal. The hope is for a pair of golds at the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia....
...Oshie, 27, a wing with the St. Louis Blues, is the town’s eighth Olympian. In his debut, he faces a certain historical imperative: the American men have never won hockey gold without a player from Warroad...
There's a few high profile players sitting this one out.
Canada's lack of Stamkos is unnerving. St. Louis is a great player and certainly deserves to be on that team, but Stamkos is such a unique talent. I don't know if there's a better goal scorer in the game, save Ovechkin, maybe.
The Swedes are missing Henrik Sedin, too. While they're a strong, deep, team too, I can't help but wonder how much that loss will affect his brother, as well.
I wonder how Zach Praise will do as captain. Probably well... Not sure if he was an alternate captain last time.
Not too much into the women's Olympic hockey, but they've had some media attention here in the Boston tv/radio since several have various ties to the area. I'll try to watch a little bit of them, though.

I watched the USA v. Finland women's game the other night or should I say very early morning. It was a pleasant surprise. The US team was very fast. I really didn't think it would compare to the men's hockey but I enjoyed the game.

It's definitely better hockey than people tend to expect, though it's traditionally been something of a two team tournament, with Canada and the USA being far ahead of the rest of the world. I think the Scandanavian hockey countries and the Russians are slowly catching up, though.
