Finland beats Russia! So much for the Russia vs Canada for the Gold comments. I'm thinking USA vs Sweden for the Gold.

I tried watching online via CBC. Service was blocked. Tried watching the NBC feed. Service blocked. Whist using a computer that is not my own, I am not going to navigate random international feed sites and risk a virus.

I'm shocked that Finland beat Russia...sorry Ovie, you and Datsyuk get the yellow water showers again, then a personal visit from Mr. Putin.

Finland played a really nice game - just solid all the way through with a good goaltender, that type of play can get you far

Latvia/Canada was a scare, but not as close as the score

The US took advantage of the Czechs, but that one maybe wasn't as completely lopsided as the score

Should be a couple of nice pairings in the semis

Oh, no doubt they'll be sprung from the Gulag by the time the NHL season restarts ...

It was the best of goaltenders, it was the worst of goaltenders...

Gudlevskis was unbeleviable for the Latvians. Kind of funny that Yzerman, who had drafted him in his non-olympic role as GM of Tampa Bay, almost had a game stolen by his own prospect.

Pavalec, on the other hand, single handedly gave that game away. Goaltending being equal, I think the Americans would have won that one anyway, but as a one of the legion of Jets fan who can't stand Pavalec (And there are many of us), it's a bit vindicating.

I never thought the Russians were that great, to be honest (though I'm trying to take anything away from the Finns, who've been excellent all tournament). Tremendous potential up front, but a lackluster defense and mid-level goaltending. I think there was some politics behind the scenes as well, as the KHL brass wanted to showcase their talent, rather than those who've come to North America.

If thats the best Canada can do i'm not optimistic about a repeat gold medal.
60+ shots on goal for Canada and something like 17 for Latvia and the best Canada can do is a 2-1 win,and the winning goal on a power play? Pathetic..
