Used to be part of OT in the hospital where I once worked. FWIW, when the first sewing machines came out, more likely than not it was a man who bought and used it. Tailors used to be far more common.
Not only that...there are some prolific men quilters as well. Ricky Timm is a famous male quilter and his photos always show him in his famous cowboy hat!
There was a man who belonged to a knitting group I used to go to.
My MIL's grandfather used to make lace doilies!! He was a firefighter, and all the men would sit around the fire house making doilies to pass the time while waiting for a fire. This was probably back in the late 1800's. We actually have some of the doilies he made.
