Anyone know how they do the prep for people who have had a gastric bypass? I can't drink that much so quickly as my stomach is now the size of an egg. I need a colonoscopy in about a year and I'm already worried!

I would really ask about the Prepokik . It's only 10 oz. You still need to push liquids, but you can do it in small frequent amounts.

For a minute or two, let's consider the medical professionals "at the other end of things". During the two colonoscopies i've had so far, I've let the other people involved know that I've already had my share of invasive treatments "below the belt" and I'm not going to get upset that easily. Most of them will allow you a certain degree of "say" in things, once they know that your expectations are realistic. Unfortunately, it's the tendency of our Madison-Avenue-centered world to sugar-coat everything, and that makes both sides of the deal think "lawsuit" when things don't go as advertised, and runs counter to a common-sense, give-and-take approach.

I had one 20 years ago while in the hospital with nothing by mouth anf feeding tube for weeks after serious illness so it was easy. But twice since then I have had to cancel at the last minute because I'm diabetic and felt I needed first thing in the morning. I was afraid without food I would have really low blood sugar and get sick. I went through all the prep but felt I was not entirely empty and was afraid I would have an accident in the car on the way to the appointment. Is there anything special to be done now for diabetics who need early a.m. appt?

If the procedure is not being done for some urgent reason, getting the first procedure slot of the day should be entirely reasonable.

There is no good way to ensure that you will not need to go to the bathroom on the way to the procedure. I guess an adult diaper, scoping out places to stop on the way to the doctor, and a change of clothes might be a good idea.

Stop putting it off! No more excuses!

I used your method, Paka, and it worked just fine. No cup after cup of witches' brew, gagging the entire time and sometimes not holding it down.

I fasted all day yesterday with the exception of a small snack around 2pm. At 6pm I was officially off all solids and drank some apple juice and broth. Then one 10 oz bottle of magnesium citrate (which has a lemony, carbonated flavor) at 8pm the night before with 2 dulcolax tabs. I also took a senna tab just to help things along. At 8am the next morning I drank another 10 oz of citrate. My appointment wasn't until 12:45pm, so at 10:45 I stop taking anything by mouth.

I was cleaned out just fine and the doc found only one tiny polyp which he burned off. I'll get the written report next week, but the doc told me I shouldn't need another colostomy for 5 or 10 years. YAY!

I just went through that for a blood test that showed I had slight anemia. I think it might have been from donating blood 6 times in the last year the last just two months ago, but after taking iron tablets for several weeks it showed no improvement. I wasn't keen on the procedure but my stomach didn't feel right( maybe stress and anxiety) and since colon cancer runs in the family and I am getting close to 50, I thought it was probably a good idea.
I had it done at 2:30 PM and was told not to eat anything after midnite the day before. Well I cheated on that a bit. I ate a big cheeseburger at 5 AM the day before on break at work. After that I ate nothing the whole day. Just drank iced tea and black coffee and nothing else. That night I started the prep the gallon of that water. That was brutal. 8 glasses over two hours. I got sick of liquids and only had a glass of iced tea after that so I dehydrated. That morning another 8 glasses over 2 hours , no food and maybe half a cup of iced tea to wash the taste out just before the 4 hour cut off point.
The toilet will become your best friend with that prep water.
I came out of it okay, the anaesteshia wears off quickly and the worst was the gas pressure after it was all done. I felt like Mike Tyson worked my gut over.
No bleeding( which I pretty much knew) and no major problems other than some inflamation of the stomach which might lead to an ulcer. I was told they'd get back to me with a biopsy and maybe it was celiac disease which might cause the iron deficiency. And was told to eat more fiber for some minor hemorrhoids and diverticulosis. I was also tested for vitamin B deficiency but the reuslts didn't come in yet. They listed protonix but I don't think I'll get it until I look at the side effects.
In and out, pretty simple.
I ate three bowls of italian wedding soup for dinner and overnite and a chicken salad sandwich since I was off and woke up hungry. The day before the family had buffalo chicken tenders which looked so tempting but I'll hold off on them for a little while.

THe biopsy can detect H. pylori which is a bacteria that causes ulcers. The treatment for me was 4 types of antibiotics, some 4x day, others 2xday, for 2 weeks. After the first week I knew it was gone but I kept taking the pills. I never want that again, so painful after eating.
