Have you tried water side portsmouth? and Park View? It's near the Navy Hospital, Interstate, and Leisure... Pending on how old your children are but they just built an emaculant middle school in Park View... You might want to try there... I lived there for 1 year but I had a slumb lord so I moved... I lived in a duplex 1 bed room apartment paying $500.00/month... $525.00 now or more right across the street from the new school (Elm Ave.)

Default Hi

Hi how are you? I hope you don't mind me contacting you. I just wanted to let you know about a great mom's group. We meet all over Hampton Roads. The calendar is full of fun events including Book club, art activities, park play date, Planetarium, home play date, zoo, walks, checking out local festivities, MNO/MNI etc. There is a private support group for military families. We also have an active online forum.
No membership fees! You control how many events you would like to attend.

I agree that you should stay away from those neighborhoods. I'm a Portsmouth native and that city gets a BAD RAP but I think the core issue is, the bad (dangerous) neighborhoods in Portsmouth are really, really dangerous but the good neighborhoods are just delightful. There's Sterling Point and Green Acres and Cavalier Forest and Waterview and Glensheallah. Those are very good neighborhoods.

Like someone else said, you should just rent if you're only here for three more years.

The real estate market is not done going down in value - sadly.

The area in question is where I would take people for a drive-thru to see the "bad areas" of the south hampton roads region. On one particular occasion late at night we were chased by a car-full of individuals driving quickly out of a dark side street and close behind me. There was no one else around when we got to a traffic signal. My fearful passengers screamed "GO" at me to drive thru the red light before the guys in the other car could get out and approach us.

Other than me getting rammed in the rear one day in nearby "Southside" district, this is the worst experience I have had there so if you are just driving through randomly, you will probably be ok. But just be prepared and not be caught off guard. Exercising your right to open-carry a firearm would be advisable...
