Walmart Supercenter planned for the old Kevin Whitaker Site at North Pleasantburg and Furman Hall Road near Cherrydale.
wow, this is extremely disappointing - Cherrydale should be the perfect area for a new Target location - what are the demographics for the immediate Cherrydale area?

This is starting to be a pattern. New Walmart moves in where people had hoped it would be a new Target. Powdersville had the same thing happen. Target clearly is not interested in expanding in the upstate at this point.

Disappointing? YES. Suprising? Not really.
Walmart keeps expanding, because people keep shopping there. If we ALL quit shopping there, then Walmart won't survive. Unfortunately, it's hard to reverse several decades of increasing size of this behemoth. Hey, "always low prices" right?

Why should I quit shopping there? I have a family of four and they have cheap prices on a lot of items that we use. We shop at WM, WF and TJ's. Plus they employ a lot of people which is good for the economy. Just because I don't want to see one every 10 minutes doesn't mean that I don't want to shop there. I also hate that there are Starbucks every 5 minutes in some towns.
Good for you. Now the point still stands that as long as more and more people shop there, Walmart will continue to grow.
So will Starbucks. I don't care about growth, I care about "smart growth". A Walmart every 10 minutes and a Starbucks every 3 miles is not "smart growth"? Agreed?

and dont forget their new grocery in between near the recently closed Kmart on Wade Hampton. I would bet they have more Greenville annoucements forthcoming. They have sort of built around the edges of Greenville in past 15 years and kind of ignored the central parts of the city. Kind of infill for them I guess. Not everyone has moved to the burbs and any jobs are a good thing. Now get busy Target with your Greenville expansion.

UGH, you're right, I forgot about that one too. That area is an eyesore, and now with the KMart closed down and vacant, it looks even worse.
