Total Solar Eclipse 2017 - Path Through the United States

Good link.. if you click on the state listed, you can see the path through the state.

Small parts of Georgia will see it.. Toccoa and Clayton areas.

Remember.. Everyone basically will see an eclipse in the US.. There's just a narrow path of totality.

Thank you, I didn't realize that.

My husband called me out of the blue saying, "We need to go to SC to watch the eclipse," so I immediately got on our timeshare site, and everything is sold out.

Went on IHG and everything there is sold out, too.

So I'm glad to know we don't really have to travel to see it.

But it won't stop me from trying to score a room, because he asked me to, which is unusual for him.

Default Events?

We will probably be around the area during that weekend so i was wondering, are there any events planned around Greenville? Some places are hosting organized viewing events, even some will have astronomers on site, like the one in the great smoky mountains.

Is anything like this planned in Greenville?

Im posting this question in the Columbia SC forum as well, as we will be between these two cities.

Here is a different look at the eclipse preparation for our area - should be a financial windfall for the this part of SC:

Quote:
“The estimate is more than a million people from Florida upward, all the way to well past New York will come to totality,” said Greg Cornwell, who heads planetarium and public programs for the Roper Mountain Science Center, which has big plans for the Aug. 21 event. “We’ve already got groups that are coming from New York to our area.”
Solar eclipse: Is Greenville prepared?

I actually thought we had a total eclipse back in the 80s, when I was in elementary school. I remember it got totally dark outside and we were watching it inside on the television. Apparently that was an "annular" eclipse, which is something slightly different. I think it was this one:

I asked the mods to make this thread a temporary sticky, but I guess it did not qualify.

There are several good Eclipse threads here with some great info, it would benefit everyone to keep all the info in one place.
