i think that Bass Pro must have verified BMW does not oppose it, before buying the land. They should have got that in writing.

Is GSP a large enough market to support both Cabela's and Bass Pro? Not sure about that, although they both have stores in the Charlotte area, along with Gander Mountain. So it might be feasible. And I think Cabela's may be considered a bit more upscale than Bass Pro.

The GreenvilleOnline article headline specifically says "Cabela’s bid wouldn’t stop Bass Pro Shops". Further in the article it explains why. Cabelas is a hunting and fishing store, while Bass Pro will be a destination. They compare it to a car (Cabelas) vs a car dealership (Bass Pro). The 101/85 site isn't the only property Bass Pro bought in the area, either. They are going to widen I85 to 4 lanes from Pelham Rd through 101. I was skeptical of development too, but this article from GreenvilleOnline has me convinced it is still on the way. The #1 issue now seems to be road development around the site. The I85 widening will likely happen after the site has already opened.

I hope it happens, but nothing in this article convinces me that it will. We've been hearing this for at least the last year.

If the source were just the county commission, I would be skeptical. But Bass Pro's own media relations propaganda minister says it is still in the works. It does look like a challenge on how to get traffic in and out of there. I think the original plan was to move the gas station currently there closer to the new Bojangles, and the main entrance will be right about where the gas station currently is, but it sounds like the road plans are still in flux.

The report back in August was that BPS would come in 1 possibly 2 years. So we are looking at least fall of 2016 at the earliest. I see it more like 2017 if we are lucky.

Bass Pro Shops owns the site and will build when it is ready. The store may not be an urgent priority right now, or Bass Pro Shops and other entities have things to resolve before proceeding with construction.
